unable to interrupt speech with Linux-2.6.10 and latest Speakup CVS build

Hi all. I messed up some things in my kernel-2.6.6 sourcetree, therefore I had to blow it away. I decided to download 2.6.10 and build it. Speakup patched in without a problem, and the rest of 
the build process didn't produce any errors either. However, when I went to reboot, I found that I couldn't interrupt speech. In listening to the hardware messages, I heard something about an 
error when trying to translate keycodes, and use something -b to make it known. I think the kernel must have paniced somewhere, however I never listened to where that occured...Listening to 
"unable to translate keycode something" for about 20 minutes can be quite tedious. I noticed that when there were no synth modules in use, the kernel booted without a problem. I also noticed 
that when I loaded in my case the Dectlk driver (echoed it), keyboard input was also working. I checked out the latest 2.00-CVS build as of today (I'm not sure of the exact build date), and 
the Dectlk driver is compiled into the kernel. Does anyone have any idea what I might have to patch to fix the keyboard problem? Thanks!
