I got 3 lines that refer to emu10k1 input sound midi and the midi line is the only one with a Y at the end, the other 2 have an M. Glenn Try this: grep -i emu10k [config.filename] If that comes back with "yes" or "m", then your kernel comes with the OSS drivers, not ALSA, which would be expected in 2.4 kernels.
