Hi,

Fixed my problem with speakup/smp locking up the pci bus.  Turns out it 
was a problem with acpi and apic, and disabling both seems to have fixed 
the problem.  Also upgrading to kernel 2.4.32 made everything run a lot 
more smoothly.
