debian sarge speakup

Will install on gateway with 3 fatal errors connected to drivers speakup26 
kernel tries to load but the same disk won't even come up talking on a 
dell.  This is the June 2005 version and the march 2005 version also fails 
in the same way.  I have a 2004 version that I got to install on this dell 
but haven't tried it on the gateway.  With the 2004 version no missing 
drivers were at issue.
