need suggestions for irc clients

One idea that comes to mind is the window feature of Speakup.  I think
it is the speakup-F3 and speakup-F4 key if I'm not mistakened.  One key
marks the upper left corner and the other will mark lower right and
define it as either a silent window or a window to be spoken on demand.
I'm at work now so can't try this specifically right now so I have to go
on guessing:).
