recording cd's on a 2.6 kernel

Well, the subject says it all, trying to use cdrecord on a 2.6.11.11 
kernel, haning removed all scsi emulation from the kernel, and no 
longer have the hdd=ide-scsi hdd being my cd burner.  Cdrecord gives me 
an error about not supporting device names, and then exits.  Any help 
much appreciated, and if cdrecord is no longer an option in the 
console, what else is there?
