Firstboot?

There's an easy fix, Ameenah. Edit your /boot/grub/grub.conf file and
remove the statement that says rhgb=quiet in the line that starts with
the word kernel.

Please note, I am writing from memory, and the exact statement may be
slightly different.

rhgb=quiet is about throwing up a lovely Red Hat graphic so as not to
scare average uswers with all those lovely technical details during
boot. So frightening, I know! <grin>

In fact, your computer is still booting. It's just not talking.
