Speakup version in Slackware

Hi, What version of speakup is included in the default slackware 10.1 kernel? Is it the latest version from cvs?
If not, I was thinking of doing an update of it and sending it to pat.

On a similar note, slackware's package of brltty, included in the contrib section, is a little out of date.
Any pointers to documents on how to create slackware packages so I can update?
