I don't know why it wouldn't work, maybe you are using a different
version. I am using 

ELinks 0.9.1 - Text WWW browser

Try giving the command "links --version" to see what version you are
using.

This is because links is a symbolic link to elinks which is supposed to
be extended links or something.
