While I agree that the learning curve is pretty steep there certainly are
*vast* amounts of documentation. The information may not be MS Word for
dummies style books, but IMHO if you take the time to read what is available
you will know much more about how your linux system works than you can
ever know about how windows works.

While I love mailing list style discussion groups, I would not advise a
newbie to touch usenet with a ten foot pole. The signal to noise ratio
on most of the news groups I've read was not very high at all. Again of
course this is my opinion.
