hp4c scanjet scanner, does it work with linux?

Hi folks,
since my linux station internet connection is working properly now, I would love to add a scanner to it.  I am wondering if any of you have had luck with using hp4c scanjet scanner with linux.  It is the old type that uses a scsi card.  Does this type of scanner have a linux driver?  If yes where can I find it?  then, what is the best ocr software for linux that can run with such a hardware?
Your ideas are extremely appreciated.
