For temperary time schedules why not take a look at the 'at' command.
'man at' gives a good overview of the command.  If it was me, I would
start up mplayer and be sure the alsa wav capture device is enabled
and your desired station is tuned in and all that good stuff. Then use
the at command (probably from another console) to run arecord.  BTW,
the arecord has a command-line option to specify the maximum length of
time in case you're interested.  One thing that has bitten me in the
past with this unattended stuff is if the internet broadcast buffers
too much, sometimes the player will cut out.  I've had zinf do this to
me numerous times even while I'm sitting there listening to it.
Obviously, if that happens while you're gone, well, the program will
be toast!
