better way of unloading modules in 2.6.6?

Hey thanks Gene. I'll definitely check that one out. However I did figure out what was causing arecord to hang...Apparently Usound is doing wacky things with the dsp device, however I have no 
idea what it is as of yet. Gues its time to re-enable my workaround.
