Hi. My ISP uses the MAC address of the network card connected to the
cable modem to make sure I'm an authorized user. I don't know how your
ISP does things, but that might be your problem.
When I used Comcast, they required the DHCP client to send a
identification string before you could get a lease. They called your
computer name. If I remember right, I told dhclient to send it as the
"client identifyer".
