What version of Open Office is in Fedora

If it works with the demo applications, you're set. Follow the openoffice install instructions and you'll be good to go. After you install it, though, you need to 
make sure it's in the path. Do not install it into the same place as fedora's, i.e. do not install with --prefix=/usr. Put a script called openoffice.sh in your 
/etc/profile.d which looks something like:
#!/bin/sh
export PATH="/opt/OpenOffice.org1.1.0/program:${PATH}"
Substituting, of course, the directory where you put openoffice. Save the script, make it executable, the log out and back in or source the script. To run 
writer now, press alt+f2 and type
swriter
in the run box. Don't try to use fedora's menu items or panel icons, they won't run your installed version, as fedora changed the name of the executable to 
oowriter.
