network card

hi greg,
thanks for the info,
i have a class b network card
so i am using numbers over 127
finally found a manual that descrives ip numbers
what server do i need to communicate
betwean machine 1 and machine 2?
what i want to do is to send files
from machine 1 to machine 2
both machines are linux
is there a simple server that will let me do that?
when my computers come up
they both say that the link is down.
i assume that the server is not loaded
or if it is i need to put
something in my config file or something.
