I must not have CVS, because I had tried speakup 1 2 3 4, and it was all
punctuation.

In cvs speakup, pitch is speakup 3 and 4.
volume is speakup 1 and 2.
you can also adjust them using /proc/speakup files.
Saving and restoring them on boot is another matter, but I know there is
some information in the archives. I personally just use the keyboard request
key with a script to keep my synth parameters, since I can reset it with
one keystroke in any application.
