Compile problems

Hallo speakup users,

My system is SlackWare 10.0 'visual'.
Because my vision is getting less. I'm trying to make my system run speakup.
The first step I made was applying the patches that come with SlackWare 10.0 
to the kernel source, but that caused compile errors.  Then I ran the 
checkout script [on a clean kernel of course :)], but also with no success.
As I'm anCbete, I'm stuck and hope that somebody in this club can give me 
some advise.
