Laptops that Linux likes?

Hi Igor,
I am using an Es Maestro3 sound chip. It is supported under ALSA and OSS, though I haven't seen any performance differences with Alsa. My on-board 3comm nic worked without any problems. Is there a setting I should change which might improve the quality of the sound on my computer?
