Oops when trying to load Speakup from init-script.

Hi all,

If I have Speakup loaded from an init-script sush as rc.serial, early, or 
rc.local, very late, I get an ugly oops just before I'd normally be able 
to log in.  Has anyone else seen this, particularly on a non Red Hat 
system?
