Cut question

I don't have the url for this one since that was on my other hard disk
that died.  There's a book called Effective Awk Programming I think 3rd
edition that's available to download as zipped text on the web.  I read
about it in sed-users list and downloaded the file but that message may
have been saved on my shellworld.net account then downloaded onto my new
hard drive.
