buying a UPS

Hi all. I'm considering buying a ups to connect my linux box to. I have 
a few questions:
where is the best place to look for one?
does anyone have any recomendations for one that doesn't cost a shitload 
of money but is powerful enough to power my box, a switch, and a 
cablemodem.
Finally I'm looking for a unit that can be connected to the comp via a 
serial line and that will work with genpower.
Any info is greatly apreciated.
