slackware 9.1 install problem cleared

The usb items in the CD hung the computer until I took the sidewinder and
the I feel mouse out and tried the install again.  This time down at the
keyboard selection prompt, speakup had gone silent.  So I turned speakup
off and turned it back on again and found the prompt on the screen.  The
rest of the install went uneventfully after that area had been cleared.
