off-topic: usb to serial

Might it not be easier (not to mension cheaper), to get a second serial
port?  Many mother boards already have the support for them, and all you
need is a header for the back of the PC.
For those that do not, I believe you can still get serial expansion boards
(they usually also have parallel ports, etc., attached as well).
