pine question

I hope one of you pine lovers can help me with this pine
configuration question.

I want to add a customized header to my messages when composing
them, and have set the "customized-hdrs=" variable in both my
.pinerc file and in the system wide pine.conf file, but I cannot
make those new headers appear. What else must I do to add a
customized header?
