I think in Slackware at least mysql was intended only to be used by the
system for system-related tasks.  Consider, you don't find any of it using
locate unless you modify paths.  I had stumbled over mysql when looking
for other things on this system, and found there's a script to start it up
called I think mysql_safe.  Going to http://lists.mysql.com will make
documentation and downloads available to you for this database system.
By the way, this database system originates from Sweden.
