DialUp/DSL/Cable/Satellite

The discussions of ISP services recently have been focused on DSL vs
cable MODEMs.  Has anyone tried a satellite ISP?  Do any of them
work with LINUX and Speakup?  It's not a critical issue, but I wonder
if a satellite link might work with LINUX where other services are
not available or desirable.
