Janina and all:

While we're listing out all of the system critical applications which 
should not be trusted to proprietary OS's and applications, let us please 
not forget voting and election machinery.  Adam and other blind folks I 
have spoken to loved being able to enjoy a secret ballot and an audible 
console during this last election.  Even so, the truth is that running 
every machine on Windows CE and proprietary software, with no paper audit 
trail generated has created the largest blow to the transparency and 
integrity of our elections since Tammany Hall or the Dodge County Georgia 
voting dead.

For those of you spending hours deleting messages, you might consider 
adding the following lines to your .procmailrc file in your home directory:

* ^X-MailScanner: Found to be clean
/u/h/hesco/mbox-sobig.f

I handled hundred of those spammy messages before talking with my sysadmin, 
Cameron Spitzer.  Cameron said he was seeing perhaps a thousand a day come 
through his box.  In the hour or two since installing this latest recipe to 
my .procmailrc script, it has effectively diverted nearly a hundred fifty 
sobig.f generated messages.

On another subject, I noticed today that Cameron is credited in the LILO 
mini-HOWTO as a contributor.  I had occasion to read it because today I 
finally installed my new-used 2.5 gb drive on my Win98 box and today 
successfully got lilo running making this machine a dual boot (Debian Woody 
/ Win 98) box!  Been planning to do this for months.  Finally got the 
hardware and a few minutes to get it installed when I got home last 
night.  The only three reasons I still ever fire up my Windows these days 
are:

         (1)     All of my email archives are in Eudora .mbx files still;
         (2)     MySQLFront is as convenient as myphpadmin;
         (3)     Adobe Acrobat will concatenate .pdf files generated by 
Open Office into a single document.

After getting a hardware modem installed here and converting my email 
archives, that will leave Acrobat as the only reason to keep the Win98 
installation.  At any rate, I'm going to need lots more disk space really 
soon.  I've filled that old 8.4 gb drive that win98 is on.  When I can 
afford a new drive, I intend to mount it on /var, copy all my old files 
over from the windows installation, figure out how to use WINE and leave 
Win9x behind.
