cvs speakup and lynx the cat

Hi all. I recently compiled a 2.4.21 kernel with cvs speakup fri aug 8 14:12:19 EDT 2003 with the acent pc driver version 1.0.
I tried to use lynx the cat to visit a website and find that now I can no longer navigate between links with up and down arrows.  What should I do?
Help would be greately apreciated.
