Latest CVS Updates

I noticed that the latest CVS update to Speakup mentions some features
that use F1 through F7.  However, the log entry said "speakup f1,
speakup f2..." What exactly does that mean? Is there an enhancement
key one must press to get these functions?

I posted my question here 'cause I thought the CVS list is merely an
announcement list; is that so?
