can speakup talk german with apolo?

Hello,

can i use the german speech rom of my apollo or must i do some settings  
for that?
I have done the following:

echo 2 >/proc/speakup/language

Then apollo talks us-english.

echo 1 >/proc/speaku/language

ist nearr the same as above.
