  OK,
  'netconfig'  dhcp yes
  Host name ISP doesn't know..
Come to think of it ISP doesn't know much.
  I found an enternet client for linux, will try it.
  Downloaded the roaring penguin PPPOE client and got time out while trying
to conect so am getting some ware.

Sorry I can't help you, since you're using dhcp. No, you're not missing
anything, it would make sense that your machine would get it's settings from
dhcp. Try netconfig first like I suggested, and select the dhcp option when
you're in the section that configures your machine's ip address. You'll need
to reboot after you  finish doing that. If things work, grate. If not, there
is a dhcp howto which I think someone mentioned earlier. Hth.
