acpi and the str/s3 state

I know what acpi is and how the s3 state works. My impression has been and still is that hitting any button on the keyboard should bring the machine out of the s3 state, and I should be exactly where I left off in windows. Is this infact correct? Do any of the experts out there have suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help.
