New to LINUX

  Hi  Chuck
  Before you spend money on a synthasiser check to be sure you have an available slot or port for it.  Some mother boards don't have ISA slots any more and if they do there might be only 1 or 2 of them whith a modem or a NIC in it or it could be empty.
