slight problems with new doubletalk lt.

I'm using debian with speakup and a 2.4.18 kernel. The problem I'm having
is this. it stutters a little on some words, while on others it takes it's
time about speaking them. I'm not exactly sure how to solve this, but it's
 slightly annoying.
