thinkpad series (off-topic)

Hi. If somebody wants to respond offlist to this, that would be fine as I know
it's veering off topic.
I just priced an ibm thinkpad t23 and it's around $2435 with shipping, tax, etc.
Of course, a used t20 would be  half that price or less but I'm a bit
concerned about being sure what i'm getting really works fully and warranties,
etc. though I haven't ruled that out. What I want to know is: what about the
other series of thinkpads? I understand that some of the series are less
expensive than the T series but the T series is the only one i know about for
sure as far as linux. I looked on google but some of the documents I found there
are quite old so I couldn't reallytransfer the information to present
models/series.
