Cheryl,

I have a SBLive Value, and don't pass it dma or anything else. Assuming
it's a PCI card, and your bios is set up correctly, then the driver will
be able to determine the values it needs.

Still, please find belo the relevant section from my /etc/modules.conf.

Part of it was sent to me by someone on thiss list I think, sorry can't
remember who but they probably know who they are. Anyway, it orked for
me, all you then need to do is look at the amixer man page, as you need to
enable the sound card channels manually. I would then also recommend
putting alsactl store somewhere in your shutdon scripts, and alsactl
restore in your startup scripts so you don't need to do this each time,
look at man alsactl for more info.

#Sound config begins.
alias char-major-116 snd
options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1
alias snd-card-0 snd-card-emu10k1
options snd-card-emu10k1 snd_index=0 snd_id="sblive!"
 # OSS/Free setup
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-slot-1 snd-card-1
alias sound-service-1-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-1-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-1-12 snd-pcm-oss
#Sound config ends.
