cvs problem

Hi all.
 Please, I need some help to use checkout.
I'm using slackware 8.0.
After type password please in cvs, I receive the
follow error message:
cvs login: failed to open /root/.cvspass for reading:
no such file or directory
cvs login aborted fatal error: exiting.
Can someone help me?
