Why not use the Debian rescue disk set
that you allready have as your rescue disks?
Simply write out 2 disks the boot floppy (off the speakup site)
and t he root floppy off the speakup site.
Boot the set; switch disks when required and then alt-f2 into a shell.
I have fixed lilo from here in the past; assuming you
are using lilo to control what boots.
