audio utilities to do the following

Hi,

I would appreciate any advice on audio tools for Linux that would do the
following:

1.  Record from line in to a wave file.  The wave file should be able to be
very large, even 1gb.

2.  Trim the blank space at the beginning/end of the file, again with a very
large file.

3.  Convert the file to MP3.
