Correct me if i'm wrong Kirk, but if you echo foo to
/proc/speakup/"synth"/direct it will echo whatever you sent.

ok, i have 4 pcs. one is win/zipspeak with via voice and emacspeak
instaled.]

i fire up a nixce tcl script, and i can do this from dos:
echo synth test >com2
and i hear test.
could this be done for speakup with a bit of hacking? just to get something 
to come out of its speakers?
