linux terminals?

i want a term sotware that'll do what i want. for example, i'm using dos, because my screen reader doesn't have that 50 ms delay that jfw does.
it seems jfw has maybe 1/5th of a second more delay then i want, and i play muds so i need taht time. my screen reader and terminal dont coperate right now,
since they redraw the screen and ... screw up.
lynx garbles text etc.
how do i fix it? al i have is a getty, and i have it set to default terminal, not vt100
