The only way to get back keypad
functionality would be to load a new keymap with loadkeys
when speakup is off (because
you wouldn't be able to shut it off afterwords). Of course, there may be another
way which I don't know anything about.

Ah crap, I always forget that buton, but I think it's printscreen, it's the left-most button on the group of three directly to the right of the function keys. That toggles Speakup on and off, all functions. However, I don't think that it restores numpad functionality in any case.
