Are you using TCP/IP protocol? Is it exclusive?

Guessing that you are using TCP/IP:
Can you ping the computer by address?
Can you ping the computer by name?
Are you using just a host name? OR a qualified name? (smartpc vs
smartpc.here.com)
What happens if you go to start, run and type \\serverip (\\10.2.3.41)?
