vfs?

I got a message from someone who is trying to load zipspeak and gets a
kernel pannic no matter what he chooses to point to his screen tells him
that his drive is hda which is fine but the error he is getting seems to be
associated with vfs.  any info I can pass along to him while we await his
joining of the list would be appreciated.
