Speakup Sans Synth?

Hi Janina:  With the cvs code you certainly can boot with the synth
either turned off or not connected.  There isn't much if any
performance hit as you call it.

I was planning on not releasing a new version of speakup until I had
the synth modules stuff written, but a number of folks have been
lobbying for a new release before then.  I'd be interrested in hearing
folks opinion on this subject.
