Samuel, thanks for creating the mini-beep.iso.  (You did, right?) I got
myself a Debian installation with it today and am somewhat in exploration
and Linux version comparison mode.

Mmm, in a vm?  What virtualization manager are you using?
(it seems to work for me, at least I'm seeing things go to the serial
port)
