installing linux to an external drive

It should be possible, as long as the distribution loads usb storage 
modules during the install and your machine supports booting from usb, 
or you want to install something like lilo to a floppy and boot that

I did this 'cause Linux gives me a woody.  It doesn't generate revenue.
