speakup's future

Hi,

I have been thinking about speakup and I thought: wouldn't it work if we could have a userspace scripting engine that 
comunicate with speakup (like the speechd-up deel) that can enable us to write scripts for speakup and on this way 
enable more users to code for speakup and implement features?

A lot of people are a bit afrade of breaking something when hacking around in the kernel.
