slackware can't install

yes slackware 12 has a speakup modified kernel on the disk, if that's
what you mean by modified, and slackware does not include gnome. you're
best off not installing anything from the kde or kdei series during the
install.
then once the system is up go to www.droplinegnome.org and get the 2.18
beta for dropline for slackware 12. I've been using slack 12 with
dropline beta for about a month now and have had no issues whatsoever.
